Camp SEE Architecture.

Welcome to our annual Camp SEE Architecture!

Summer 2024 dates coming soon!

Last year's Camp SEE Architecture focused on strategies to empower young girls on carbon-free design. The overall theme of the camp was “Climate Change” with a goal of creating a campaign message around change in the environment or within their own communities. Due to COVID, we created a distance learning camp where we dropped off weekly “Energy Kits”, which included a curriculum booklet, topic description with relevant links and craft components. Each week’s lesson highlighted learnings and offered insight into solutions to make our planet better both personally and globally. One of the ways that Camp SEE Architecture advances climate justice is for campers to see equity, energy and the environment. We exposed them to designers and advocates of color through video links and photos for examples and inspiration. We heard from staff that one of their favorite activities was designing a model playhouse using fairy lights for "solar roofs". Although we missed the in person experience, we know that they learned about how design impacts the built environment and their role as energy ambassadors.

Through the use of drawing, modeling and other creative outlets, Energy Ambassadors developed their own Carbon Reduction Campaigns to share what they would like to see in North Minneapolis.

A special thanks to our partners at 21st Century Academy, and our sponsors: the Minnesota Architectural Foundation, Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board and the Clean Energy Resource Teams for supporting our work.

Virtual Book Club.

You are what you eat” has been traced back to Anthelme Brillat-Savarin, in 1826, in his book The Physiology of Taste. He wrote, “Tell me what you eat and I will tell you what you are.”  So, it goes with reading, that what you are reading nourishes your mind.  We love to read, so we created a book club that focuses on books that expand our design thinking and feed our soul.

What’s up with the MARGINS?

The margins is our design philosophy in how we approach our work. Yes, it’s a place to record and recall important facts and ideas, but we also view it as a place that sparks creativity. (read more...)
