"The Master’s Plan" – Pilgrim Baptist Church

(Partner with Station Nineteen)

Pilgrim Baptist Church is Minnesota’s first African American church founded in 1863. The existing church building was built in the 1920s and had many unique characteristics to overcome. Thorough the years, the church grew into a four- story structure with limited means of accessibility. We prepared a Master Plan to strategically design for future growth for worship, education and fellowship as well as eliminate the physical barriers. As part of Phase One, a new addition was provided that included an elevator, new handicap accessible toilets, and meeting rooms. This space has connected all levels of the church and provided a light filled structure for gathering and wayfinding. Posed for growth, this addition seamlessly unites the existing historical structure and prepares a path for their next season.
